![]() ![]() This feature does not appear to be available just yet, but it will come to a number of cities in 2023, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Paris, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Tokyo, and Venice. It's sort of like Live View but using 3D maps instead of an actual live view of where you are. Google also announced Immersive View for routes, which will allow you to get a bird's-eye view of your entire route to get a better idea of the area and conditions during a certain time of day. The Google Maps API allows you to navigate and explore new travel destinations on. Type any place where you want to travel on the world and Earth 3D Map will find it for you. To get to Street View for the step you want, tap the photo. If a preview is available for a step, a photo shows. On your Android phone or tablet, to view detailed directions, pull up the bottom window. The feature is available on iOS and Android phones. Use the navigation panel to zoom in and zoom out, get information about the place on the map or just press the random button to find a new amazing travel places. Preview directions in Street View Important: To get directions in Street View, enter a destination and tap Directions. This is especially true for buildings that allow you to take a look inside, which I haven't been able to find outside of the one Google has used in its examples. As such, not every landmark seems to support the feature, so you'll have to play around to see what buildings you can find that will allow you to jump into Immersive View. This also explains why the resolution of the 3D view isn’t very high. Just fly down closer to street level, check your controller to see if Street View is available and enter an immersive. Update: As Barry Hunter points out in the comments, Google is actually using LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to calculate the 3D images and is not calculating stereo pair imagery. We love this sense of possibility, so we’re bringing Street View to Earth VR to make it easier for you to see and experience the world. Google can then use this data to create better location data for these buildings and addresses. By combining shots from different angles, Google can use the stereo pair to calculate the distance between the Street View car and the buildings along the street. We can only assume that Google was already calculating these 3D perspectives and using them internally. Type any place where you want to travel on the world and Earth 3D Map will find. ![]() The 3D mode in Google Books, which Google also announced on April 1st, is now gone, however. The Google Maps API plug-in allows you to see street view images online. Instead, it actually looks like Google has expanded this program since April 1st. Given that Google announced this update on April Fool’s Day, we assumed that the 3D feature would have been gone by now. Animated Route Maps is a web service which allows you to map out a route on Google Maps and then experience the route via Street View. ![]() First on this list is Animated Route Maps. As far as we can see, this feature is available anywhere in the world where Google currently offers Street View. Thankfully, there are tools that can change that. To see these images, you will need a pair of old-fashioned red/cyan glasses, bring up Street View in Google Maps and click on the Pegman with 3D glasses on the left side of the screen. 360 imagery helps you know where to go and what to expect when traveling. At that time, we just thought this was an elaborate April Fool’s joke, but as of this morning, the 3D view is still available in Google Maps. On April 1st, Google introduced a 3D mode for Street View in Google Maps. ![]()
